Hello all,
I need you to check this more often. I know you guys are busy, but so am I!
I need everyone to add some multimedia to at least one of your stories for the first week of Prodution fortnight. Just one to start with.
Let me know what stories you may want to have on video and we will sort it out.

IMPORTANT
Please try an take pictures that can go with your news story. For some events you may want to ask a PR person for them in anticipation?
I am pasting a section from Rachel's blog regarding subbing:
Name all your submissions as follows for easy identification:
your name, life and arts, section heading, subject
e.g. Rachel,life and arts,fashion, viktorandrolf
On Production Fortnight=
Profile=400 words Time limit=1 day
Feature=500 words Time Limit=2 days
News Item=300words Time Limit=1 day
Column/Blog=2-300w Time Limit=1 day
As we are the news team, we should all be either working on a story or thinking about the next one. We are going to have to work really hard and hand in articles in time!
Good luck with your stories!

News news
Hola!
So far I have a story from each one of you, but some stories planned for news have ended up in features (traitors…) and other are joint bylines. I know it’s hard to make them timely, but for those working on news stories, please send them as soon as you finish them.
Daniel-story on DRC
David- Israel-Palestinian
Juliana- Burials or biodiesel
Hamad- need one of the ones you suggested
I know that you guys have been working on them so that’s why im telling you and not the others (who also gave in some stories).
For the rest of you that I haven’t mentioned have a look at the list of events posted on April 29 in the blog as well as Solange’s suggestions posted below.
I need to have everyone constantly thinking, doing or finishing a story.
Have a good wknd!

Multimedia Pax
Hey all!
I'm posting for everyone to see the multimedia packages we have for all the sections as of right now. So far, providing that everything gets approved for live broadcast, we'll have it as a "go" Those stories which are marked "Unconfirmed" have not been confirmed to me by section editors as to whether or not they are being written.
Here they are:
Multimedia Packages
1. Freeganism-Steph Chung (broadcast reporter), Lisa Botter (feature writer—2 piece spread—2 days?)
2. Israeli/Palestinian conflict—Nathalie Gentaz(broadcast reporter), David Mugyoni (Interview news feature)
3. Young People and HIV—Steph Chung (reporter), David M. or Soni Daniel (news piece) UNCONFIRMED
4. Refugee Week—Toni Renda (reporter), Zoe Lamazou (news story)
5. London-Paris bike ride—Tania G. (reporter), Marie Dhumieres (feature) UNCONFIRMED
6. Chilean law outlawing use of birth control—Cecile Bonneau (reporter), Mari Gilli (news feature)
7. French Modeling Agencies—Matthieu S. (reporter), Rachel (lifestyle feature)
8. Pickup Artist—Federica Cocco (reporter), Federica Cocco & Mari Gilli (lifestyle feature).
9. Modern Feminism and anti-Playboy protest—Tania G (reporter), Solange (Events, possible news story, and possible profile)
I will be posting a list at the end of the weekend as to all of the broadcaster stories. Some will not be approved for broadcast, but I'd rather we write our stories in advance. Worst case scenario, we have just the print story and no video or audio. These stories are not to be a rehash of the same subject matter, but rather taking these ideas on from a different angle or creating a linking story. In addition, if anyone is interested in recording video or audio for his or her segments, please let section editors know and have them contact me ASAP. If you have a question for me, personally pertaining to multimedia, please email CityUmultimedia@gmail.com.
Thanks!
Solange D.

Progreso
Holas!
The official deadline for handing the first set of articles is tomorrow. So far I have David's and Daniel's article on Kenya, and mine on Burma.
I know you are all working on yours and that we will have all the articles ready and subbed for the 20th. I have already spoken to each one of you individually today. But, the sooner you get them in the better. All first drafts should be in before the weekend to make sure that the stories will definitely be ready to publish.
I will see you tomorrow!

Articles
Daniel, glad you got yours in so early, that makes things much easier.
But ,can you and the rest of the team email me your articles instead of posting them here? (almudena.serpis@gmail.com)
Its better to keep the blog just for messages for everyone, suggestions and ideas.
Thanks

Science and environment
Hi Ali and all -
I'd be happy to cover the Forest story, if you'd like. I'm also working on a story about how PCBs have infiltrated the Norwegian fjords and are threatening to destroy fishing stocks there.
Here are a few other things going on that people might find of interest:
Saturday May 10: Restorative Justice, Quaker Dialogues with Juliet Lyon of the Prison Reform Trust and Marian Liebmann. It's at Friends House, from 2-5 pm. £6 entry fee.
Thursday May 15: Are Women Peaceful? Reflections on the role of women in peacebuilding. This is at University of Westminster, go to http://www.kent.ac.uk/clgs/events/annual_lecture08.htm
Sunday May 18 - Democracy and Dissent with Antonia Fraser, Tristram Hunt, and Geoffrey Robertson. £10, call 0207 709 709.
The Identity of Nations (I'll be going to this one)
Thursday May 22 - Global transport, poverty and climate change lecture at Portcullis House Westminster at 5 45 pm (I work here so I can cover this if no one wants to)
Tuesday June 3 (for later reference) - Security Lecture at the Smith Institute with Jacqui Smith. MUST BOOK A PLACE NOW - securityad@smith-institute.org.uk.

12-13 May: Responsible business summit:it's is too expensive to attend (More than one grand...), so ruled out.
Wednesday 7th May- Argentinean woman gives talks in London to raise awareness of the destructive effects of building dams in the Patagonia. She is touring Europe looking for support against the building of these dams that will damage the ecosystem.
Indymedia.
Daniel and Julian, if you do not have any ideas for news story you can pick the one above or the one on War On Want (trying not to report on the event so much as on the issue, as it has to be current for when we go into production fortnight ).
I will try and get more ideas up today. Please let me know which one you are doing before 1pm tomorrow.
xx

Stories ready for the 19th
Hi everyone,
We need pieces finished before May 19 because there is a mock and we need to start filling in the site. We need at least one story for each section.
social issues- Burma story(Ali), Colombian social movements- 12 May (possibly me, but African org will be there too, it will be good if someone else came too).
I need someone covering the WarOnWant event posted below. If you are interested let me know, if not I will commission it to someone.
economy and politics- Food crisis African child (David)
Indian business men coming to London (Andrila- although not sure)
science and environment-the forest
Filmic insight into the plight of forest-reliant communities (15 May)- I need someone to cover that too.
American hacks into new Mac (anti-corp)- Solange (depends on contact).
Media review- Daniel it would be good to start looking at how the Burma story and the Food crisis are being reported in the British press and abroad. We need commentary and start building links. (I’m working on that too).
IMPORTANT NOTICE:
If anyone sees that a story similar to the one you are covering is reported in a different way in other media (something interesting, unbalanced, outstanding, original) write a few paragraphs about it (or even a few words), note down the link and off it goes to the Media Review section.
Let me know what stories you are doing or if you found new ones as soon as you can, :)
I know some of you have other important roles, but its only 500w max... if you are very busy I will try and give articles to other people, just let me know.
Bexos, see you tomorrow!
